MINDS is looking to hire a fulltime EMG/EEG technologist to join our growing team of Electro-diagnosticians. More information about our clinic can be found on our website at www.mindsneurology.com
POSITION SUMMARY
The EMG/EEG Technologist is responsible for the performance of EMG studies on referred patients and for functions associated with daily operations of the EMG lab such as supplies inventory control and ordering. The EMG Technologist will prepare patients for and conduct standard nerve conduction studies, collect information pertinent to interpretation of the test and assist in the maintenance of the equipment. The EMG/EEG Technologist will collaborate with EMG/EEG lab physicians in planning and conducting the tests.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare patients for EMG examinations.

Completes nerve conduction studies in accordance with departmental protocols and best practices.

Assists the physician electromyographer in completion of the needle EMG assessment.

Ensure patient comfort and safety.
Secondary learning opportunities:
As one of the only comprehensive Neurology clinics we perform onsite rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) as well as onsite ECG and Holter monitor hookups. Training is provided and continued education with electrophysiologic modalities is encouraged.
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Graduate of an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Technology or Electromyography Technology program.
-
Registered or eligibility to register with Canadian Board of Registration of Electroneurophysiology Technologists (CBRET) or Board of Registered Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC).
-
Membership with Canadian Association of Electroneurophysiology Technologists (CAET) is an asset.

Ability to perform EMG testing.
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience in performing both EEG and EMG tests.

Demonstrated ability to perform EMG testing.

Understanding of neuromuscular anatomy and physiology, electrophysiological equipment and electronic principles.

Ability to interpret and evaluate clinical data and information.

The Ability Clinic is located at 755 Queensway East, Suite 304, Mississauga and serves a diverse population of over a million residents in the communities of Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, and Oakville. Our clinic is currently seeking the following full-time position/part-time position to join our exciting and innovative multidisciplinary team:
EMG Technologist
The technologist will help determine the electrodiagnostic testing necessary for a patient, based on the consulting physician’s assessment and plan. They will be responsible for operating and troubleshooting the nerve conduction/electromyography equipment for the physician in the lab. We offer 8 large clinic rooms, 2 EMG machines for electrodiagnostic testing, supportive staff/technicians, and fully accessible clinic for our patients. General renumeration will be $35-40/hr based on experience and qualifications. Shifts will be primarily Monday to Friday, 8 hour shifts. The expected start date is October 2022. This is a particularly exciting opportunity for new and established technologists to work in a multidisciplinary clinic.
Candidates for the above position must be a graduate of a university degree or college diploma program, and be certified or eligible for the BRETC (Board of Registration or Electromyography Technologists of Canada) or equivalent (ABEM Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist). • Learn both the practical and theoretical aspects of EEG and pertinent neurology.
• Performs, under limited (or in some instances full) supervision, routine as well as more complex EEG's (e.g. Children, ICU, Telemetry).
• Becomes familiar with and begins to perform aspects of general laboratory functions: e.g. equipment maintenance, supplies, scheduling, prioritizing, laboratory SOPs, etc..
• Participates in appropriate weekly educational rounds. Experience
• Minimum 3 months of experience as an EEG Technologist Trainee is required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
• Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
• University Sciences courses such as Biology, or Physics preferred.
• Completion of a minimum 3-6 months on-the-job training as an EEG Technologist Trainee.
• Preference given to those having completed Part I Written CBRET exam and/or those who are diploma graduates from a college-based EEG Technology program. Certification/Licensure/Registration
• Must be registered with CBRET as a candidate to sit the Registration exams.
Qualifications and Skills
• Ongoing participation in EEG Reading sessions, EEG related Educational Rounds and lectures, etc.

Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Charge EEG Technologist, and in accordance with national EEG standards (CAET), the incumbent is responsible for performing standard EEG recordings, sleep recordings and portable EEG recordings on both pediatric and adult patients, ensuring a high quality and standard of work. Also performs more complicated recordings such as long-term monitoring of seizure patients, pre-operative surgery studies and serial studies on various neurological disorders. Assists in the preparation of the patients for neurosurgical procedures when EEG monitoring is required.
Experience

2 years’ experience performing standard EEG’s.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

University courses completed preferred and successful completion of a recognized EEG Training Program required.

Must be able to manage independently triaging of requested EEG tests and be capable of performing and monitoring a number of EEG tests as part of after-hours/on call service.

Cross training and registration in nerve conduction studies an asset, with formal training in EMG (Electromyography) preferred. Participation in Employer provided EMG training may be required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
-
Registered as an Electroencephalography Technologist (RET) with the Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologists (CBRET) or an equivalent registration as recognized by the Centre. Those with international qualifications will be required to become certified by the Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologists (CBRET) within a stipulated time frame.
